44. A Crossroad in the midtown of Fourmies

This is a crossroad in the center of Fourmies.. Here you can see on the right the house of Europe. Its name is "Maison de l'Europe de la Grande Thiérache". There you can have courses of german with... (Psst!!!) every saturday afternoon, in the room under the sign-boards.

43. Evening ambiance in Fourmies

This is a crossroad in Fourmies. The photo is taken from the window of the Europe House.
You can see the little red clouds in the evening sky and the lot of cars that are riding here.
In summer, when I make my course and that the window is open, it is an awful noise on the street. You can hear the cars which are making noise during the weddings and the noise (tüü...tüü...) of the ambulances and of the cars for the help to the sick persons (the firemen have a duty of help for the people, not only for fire, but also for accidents or sickness, and their cars come often along this windows).
In the back-ground you see the clouds with the evening colours.

Work for pupil at school (Intermezzo)

In the month September 2005 I begun to make a blog for pupils of the high-school where I work. And then I became difficulties with this blog-site named "Mes leçons d'allemand et d'Allemagne". I write here only this few lines to publish the comment I get when I related here this event. After a few days I could publish again on the blog.

42. The factory SAMP in Pont-sur-Sambre

This is the factory SAMP in Pont-sur-Sambre, where they make expoding weapons, I dear it's explode some day, but it is a long time in the town and there were never an accident there. I fear more the production factory of electricity made out of gas, they will make in one year one km far from here. A part of the factory is above the river Sambre.

40. Water for birds and rabbits in Fourmies.

The name of the shop announces, it is a shop for fishes in water. But shall the birds and rabbits also swim ?
Added on August 09 : This shop and the house are now to sell, I hope the new owners will conserve this paintings, because I find they belong to the street landscape of Fourmies.

39. Early spring trees and column chapell.

Here in the Avesnois these column-chapells which are composed of a column of blue stones, with a hole for a statue are typical for this small region. The trees become not green in spite of the early spring because the winter was very long and cold.
I took this photo near the sluice and bridge of Pont-à-Pont.
Add on the 9th August : you can see the chapelle better, if you click on the picture, it is on the link.

To-day it's the first time I send a pic that isn't from Pont-sur-Sambre, but of an other town of the Avesnois. It's the window of a bakker's shop. In the Main Street of Fourmies is 35 km in the South-East of here and all in the South-West of the department "North" (Nord).

This pic is taken with the bridge of Pont-sur-Sambre in the back. It's the main street which leads from Aulnoye-Aymeries to Bavay, a town of the Rom Antiquity (like Trier). Here is a roman road which is then very straight, between the other end of Pont unto the North to Bavay. It is the road where is the tower. On the left there is a factory where they produce weapons that can explode. It is the factory S.A.M.P.

It is near the bridge of Quartes, the blue bridge which I published on a photo I published before. The river is in the hole in front of the house we can see in the back of the photo. The same houses which are in reflection in the water (1). A few years ago they were at the place of the fountain a big house which was an ancient café. But it was a ruin and was put down.

35. Trees in the Cité Notre-Dame

The photo of to-day.The Cité Notre-Dame is the only place in Pont-sur-Sambre where the branches of the trees were cut on this way. They cut them in autumn, but now in spring I wonder how the buds could came out of what stay of the branches of this trees. It's the french way to cut the branches on the squares and streets. I do not think that it's the right place for the birds nests on this trees.

33. Houses in reflection

In my town there are three bridges and the river makes a curve around the town so that there are water on three sides of the town. The name Pont-sur-Sambre means Bridge over the Sambre. I took this photo near the bridge of Quartes (the blue bridge on the left), the church Notre-Dame de Quartes is on the other side of the Sambre (in my back) (church, 1, 2).
The bridges of Pont-sur-Sambre are the bridge of Quartes (here), the bridge of Pont à Pont (the people give it the simple name of "Pont à Pont", this means "Bridge to Bridge", and the third one the Pont de Bachant. On the fourth side, on an affluent of the Sambre named the Sambrette, there is also a bridge called the "Pont sur la Sambrette" (or Bridge over the Sambrette). Here on the picture, when there's is an overfload, the bridge is saves but the streets and the houses which are lower than the bridge are overfloaded. The Sambrette and the road to Bavay and one of the two roads to Maubeuge, are the three ways on where you can get then out of the town, but the three bridges over the Sambre are then closed, so that you must ride 18 km before finding a street with a bridge over the Sambre which is high enough to go on the other side of the river with the car. But there are not often big overfloads (perhaps two times in ten years), but often some small meadows overfloads.

27. Bon anniversaire, Eric

Eric is the first blogger of the daily photo blogs. The anniversary of his blog was on Saturday. I did'nt know it and I saw it on the other daily photo blogs. I had no photo of Pont-sur-Sambre according to Paris, but I knowed where to make one. Pont-sur-Sambre is not on the Ile de la Cité but it could be on an island. It's in a big curve of the Sambre. But it has several citys (Cités) and one is called Notre-Dame. In this way some Pontois (the inhabitants of Pont-sur-Sambre) do not live near Notre-Dame on the Isle of la Cité but at the same time in a Cité and in Notre-Dame. In the back of the street-board are some headless trees of the Cité.
_________________________

26. Town library (again).

  • You may think in Pont-sur-Sambre there's only the town library, the mysterious tower (XVIIth century - these are latin numbers -we employ them only in history for the centuries and the names of queens and kings !) and the old church. But there are more ! Here is the town library in color, so that you can see the blue sign with its name : Del Marle. Del Marle is a painter of Pont-sur-Sambre (XXth century). It was a few years ago not a thing I knowed, but it begins since about three years to be a local famous man. His name was given last year to a middle secundary school in Aulnoye-Aymeries, one neighbour town. Here in the Sambre Valley towns and villages stand very near to another.

23. The town library of Pont in black and white with Main Street

  • Here is the town library of Pont-sur-Sambre. Clicli is a-waiting in front of it. I'm not used to see CliCli in black-grey, but in red. The town library is in the main street. You can see the architecture of blue stones (extracted in the region) under, and red backed earth(bricks) (like many houses are also in England), above.

22. The top of the tower of Pont-sur-Sambre

Here you can see the top of the old tower of Pont-sur-Sambre. This tower has a mysterious origin. It is from the 17 th century and was to look at the country if no ennemy or robbers were coming to the town.

21. Towards the ancient electricity factory

  • I took this photo from a window of our house. You can look (f you make the photo bigger by clicking on it) in the background at the electricity factory of Pont-sur-Sambre. It did use coal for the fabrication of electricity. Fifteen years ago it had three big towers. It looked like a cathedral of the industry. The three towers where put down and now they are making a gas eletricity production factory by the private firm Poweo (electricity made by gas). I fear it could be an explosion with it like with the gazoduc of Belgium for two years. It the first time in France an electicity fabric is made by a private firm and not the national electricity company EDF. I would like better they build wind wheels instead of it. In our region, we have much wind. Then you can see the horse house of a neighbor (build in steal), and my two sapins a green and a blue one. If you make the foto bigger you shall see the blue branches of the sapin on the left.
