Winter sunset in Aulnoye.

The sky of December is of a light blue. Under our latitude (51° North), the sky is not always of a right blue in December. We have now the shorter days of the year. The days are becoming shorter at the evening until Santa Lucia at the 13th december, and shorter in the morning until the begining of January. It is clear from 9 am until 4 pm. Here it is 16:38 (my camera says 17:38 summer hour!) and the sun is coming down. The photo was taken on the Place Matisse in Aulnoye-Aymeries also.

Sunrise over Pont-sur-Sambre....

To get the green light of the sunrise on this morning I made a little video film with my cool pix, to get out of it some photos, because the color with the photo camera was too blue-violet and and the colour of the video was more according to the real green colour of the sky. We have here often a green sky just before the sun is coming over the horizon line, but it is not a aurora like one can see in Scandinavia or in Canada, but I think than more in the North here than the big Canadian towns, it is the wet oceanic weather which make that we can see no right aurora. Or they would be behind the clouds.

Here another photo of an Aurora (in Alaska) I found on Apod Search Result. I can compare the colour of the winter sky here in the morning with the green light beam of this picture.

The Auroras can be seen often until a latitude of 65° North. But one can see them a few days in the year until 50° North. Pont-sur-Sambre is on 50° North. And the town the most in the North of France, Dunkerque at 51° North. More in the South it is very seldom to see an aurora, but in Germany, Austria and Swiss they already saw some Auroras.

Sunset at the edge of Bois L'Evêque

I took this photo as the same place like before, only that it was towards the West and in the West the sun was going to sleep under a veil of light clouds. With our car we escape to the West, because the wind was going to blow very strong at this place and I was frightened that there would be a tornado like at the end of the sixties, or at the beginning of the seventies.

My web-friend Mari of Sachsen likes sunsets, so I dedicace this picture to her (Widmung an Mari). It would be good to write here a poem of Rilke or of Theodor Storm.

Before the storm (at the edge of Bois L'Evêque Wood)

For a few days we went to the edge of the forest of Bois L'évêque, as we saw some big clouds we decided to left as soon as possible the forest to go home. At the edge of the forest I stopped my car, to make this photo towards to the wood. It is a right lonely and wild country here at the South West of Landrecies. In the village on the other side of the wood there were for years (1968) a big storm (tornado) at which the whole country is remembering to-day. So that we were my husband and I very frightened as we saw this clouds especially the blue one on the left and as a strong wind begun to blow. You can see there is also a bird in the sky !

I dedicace this photo to my web-friend Elisabeth, because she made walks to this edge of the forest with her grandmother as she was a child.

275. Trees and clouds.

On my every day road also, I stopped to take this photo, as we were crossing the forest of Trélon a little after Sains-du-Nord. It was in the morning and the trees in this early December are endly going to loose their leaves, what is late compared with other years. The early morning light in the clouds I found wonderful. In December the sun is rising up between 8 and 9, so that you can take the best photos of sunrise at this time.

254. Inn in autumn colors.

Also in Hachette, near the crossroads with the train, there were there is a place where the trains stop, you can find this little tourist café. With a terrasse. There were there is only forest and a few houses the trein stop only two times a day. A good place for those who want to go to the forest with their bicycles. In this café you could eat also for years the Tarte au Maroilles, a salt cake with the cow-cheese of the region the Maroilles. This cheese is very fat and has a strong smell and taste. Nowadays in this old inn you can only drink but no more eat.

233. The church tower of Sebourg.

Here is the church tower of Sebourg. It is the same church like on the photo of the message of yesterday. Some parts of it are of the 12th century.

231. The french cock.

Above the monument to the dead soldier of the wars of the 20th century in Sebourg (other picure of Sebourg with explanations about the location of the town) you can see this french cock of stone looking at the evening sky.

229. Shall you go to St James of Compostella ?

This path along the Sambre is leading here towards the South and from there you go a long time along the Sambre in the direction of Berlaimont and Landrecies. Then you have to take fied paths to St Quentin. From there to Paris, I do not know, because there is no guide book. And then you can go on the Compostela way of Tours to Spain... Also if you not believe in God, this is an historic way. Nothing to do with the romn road which is passing more on the East. And the roman road to Lutèce (Paris) was going at the West side of the forest of Mormal which I have to photograph before the beautiful autumn leaves are all fallen. On the sign-board you can see the way is only for pedestrians. The fishers like to fish along this way.

I took also the photo in Aymeries, near the church.

113. The sky with the ancient brewery sign and chimney.

You know I'm non-alcoholic (I drink no alcohol), but ancient sign-boards are beautiful, particularly when they are rising into the sky like this one. It is the sign of the ancient brewery of Pont-sur-Sambre (The brewery no more exist, only the house). This house is in the middle of the town, near the nautic base.

17. Snow in the Morning light.

We are in March. And.. It's a wonder. Almost every day we have snow, especially in the morning.

15. A lightneous sign-board.

Here is a special effect that I did'nt want to have, but I find it is not bad. I wanted to photograph the sign-board with the flash, because it was almost night, and the sign-board flashed towards me. This lightneous sign-board in the evening landscape is something very special, do you not find?

I took this photo near the bridge of Quartes at the sluice of Quartes in Pont-sur-Sambre.

14. L'écluse et l'éclusier (sluice and sluice-keeper).

On this photo you can see the sluice of Quartes, near the bridge of Quartes and the house of the sluice-keeper. All this in the evening light of late winter.

12. Frozen Time in Pont-sur-Sambre

• Décidément, le printemps qui s'annonçait est reparti bien vite et les frimas ont de nouveau envahi la région, mettant un halo de blanc matinal sur la campagne et les jardins.

• Surely, the spring which announced itself a week ago is quickly gone away and the cold time is anew on the region, and set a shade of white on the countryside and the gardens.

• Es ist sichern der Frühling, der sich vor einer Woche angekündigt hatten is schon wieder weg und das eisige Wetter hat von Neuem einen morgendlichen weiBen Schleier auf das weiBe Land und die Gärten ausgebreitet.

7. Church(es) and Shadows...

It is a second shadow play, but this time with the church of Pont-sur-Sambre. Suddenly I became four churches on the message, and I find it well so. I find it looks like in a film. Isn't nice ?
