Old brewery sign in Pont-sur-Sambre

This is the old brewery sign of the ancient brewery in Pont-sur-Sambre. I already published photos of it at the beginning of my blog, but here with my new camera you can see it better. I made this photo a few days ago.

Oh! I'd almost forget something : the answer for the question with the round light is this one : it is the clock of the church of Anor by night with a Christmas light all around.

Old mill in Pont-sur-Sambre

This old mill in Pont-sur-Sambre is on the high on the street to Vieux-Mesnil and Hargnies near the cemetery in a place named "Chicago". It is the name given to the group of a little houses all around the cemetery and farms on the maps.

Moon in the morning over Pont-sur-Sambre

Riding on the street going in the high above Pont-sur-Sambre just after the church, I saw this beautiful sunrise with the moon in the middle of the sky.I stopped my car on the parking of the church to make photos of the moon. Above you can see the Christmas lights which are already extinguished at this time of the day, around 8 pm.

On this picture you can see in the right sad weather the church of Pont-sur-Sambre, and the town district of Quartes (a part of it) between two willows. You can find the same place at the beginning of the blog (February 2006 in the Archives). But it was a photo with leaves on the trees (an elder one). The photo is taken from behind the Cité Notre-Dame.

Floods of the Sambre in Pont-sur-Sambre

Just before the freezing time came, they were some floods of the river Sambre like here, behind the Cité Notre-Dame, in Pont-sur-Sambre. You can see how the meadows were getting some water. Behind on the left you can see also the blue bridge or Pont de Quartes, the one near the church. It was no great floods, this little floods arrived often in autumn and winter. In the nineties we had one time a flood during two weeks where all three bridges of Pont-sur-Sambre and the one between Aulnoye and Berlaimont was under water, so that we had to ride to Maubeuge to get a dry bridge. And make forty kilometers.

The virbunum with flowers white like snow is blooming in the late autumn and at the beginning of the winter, like now (I made this photo in Pont-sur-Sambre).

I photographed again the daybreak like two weeks ago. It is now very cold, and when the sky is not cloudy, the morning sky is an iced one.

Roses of October

In our mild North country (I was surprised but looking at Google Earth I saw, we are more in the North than Winnipeg or Vancouver in America), with a half oceanic weather warmed by the Gulf Stream, we can have flowers until the end of December, sometimes also at the beginning of January like last year and the first spring flowers are coming at the end of February so that we have only a month without flowers.

I made this photo in my small wild garden.

Sunrise over Pont-sur-Sambre....

To get the green light of the sunrise on this morning I made a little video film with my cool pix, to get out of it some photos, because the color with the photo camera was too blue-violet and and the colour of the video was more according to the real green colour of the sky. We have here often a green sky just before the sun is coming over the horizon line, but it is not a aurora like one can see in Scandinavia or in Canada, but I think than more in the North here than the big Canadian towns, it is the wet oceanic weather which make that we can see no right aurora. Or they would be behind the clouds.

Here another photo of an Aurora (in Alaska) I found on Apod Search Result. I can compare the colour of the winter sky here in the morning with the green light beam of this picture.

Auroras (Polarlichter, Aurores Boréales) over Germany, Swiss and Austria, in Thomas Sävert Photo Gallery.

The Auroras can be seen often until a latitude of 65° North. But one can see them a few days in the year until 50° North. Pont-sur-Sambre is on 50° North. And the town the most in the North of France, Dunkerque at 51° North. More in the South it is very seldom to see an aurora, but in Germany, Austria and Swiss they already saw some Auroras.

Man going to buy on the market on a rainy day (Hommage to Doisneau 1).

This man is going down the stairs going at feet to buy the necessary food. He has a caddie in his hands from which you can see the wheels. I introduce here a serie of photos that I photograph in colours but doing it afterwards in black and white called Hommage to Doisneau, because I like this photographer of the mid of the 20th century.

A ground cover...

This plant came like wild plants in my garden, it is a good ground cover, with some little flowers in the spring.Here you can see some rose leaves which fall down.

My first attemps by daylight : Roses of my garden, it seems a little too clear. I must learn to play with sunlight.
