François Mitterand in Anor...

In Anor the space François Mitterand is, as I think I said it already a center with several houses like a lodging for short holidays or groups, and two houses for the associations, on the edge of the entrance you can find this monument to the honour of the ancient french Président François Mitterand. His wife came here a few years ago to inaugurate the center. The mayor of Anor is now deputy at the french national assembly.

Not far from Avesnois : the Florentine of Hirson.

Hirson is the first town you can meet when leaving the Avesnois and the department North and the North Country (50° until 51° North latitude) going to the South East. It is also not far from Belgium but a little more in the East to Avesnois. The railway station of Hirson like the railway station of Aulnoye-Aymeries was a long time on the railway road from London to Milan called Calais-Bâle. And here also, although there is no so much railway-trafic like in Aulnoye, you can find old testimonies of the intense railway activity of the past. Here seaking where a paint and photos exhibition with european artists take place, I came in a little road ending in the fields (that have to become a big road) and just stopped my car to take this picture of the "Florentine" of Hirson, a tower to control the shunting of the treins. I already published last year a picture of the Florentine of Aulnoye-Aymeries which became a cultural center. Near the one of Hirson you can find somewhat else : a big round place where the engines where turning around to take the right way and come to the right trein.

Avesnois belongs to the Thiérache and a big part of the Thiérache is in the neighbour department of Aisne, which belongs not like Avesnois to the Nord-Pas de Calais but to the Picardie, which are the administrative regions. A part of the Thiérache is also in Belgium. The part of the Thiérache belonging to Picardie is called "Thiérache de l'Aisne".

Just before going to sea....

I went to sea to-day, it is a long way to sea, I must ride with the trein, just before leaving the town of Aulnoye-Aymeries, we took a coffee in the front of the railway station,where I made this good city photo with a bike waiting on his rider (It's not mine!). The man do not fear to be stolen from its papers in the case!

A ground cover...

This plant came like wild plants in my garden, it is a good ground cover, with some little flowers in the spring.Here you can see some rose leaves which fall down.

Greetings from the festival : some french bread, with tea

When you go to a festival, you do not have to forget to eat. There is a big, very good eating in one of the cloister rooms of St Michel, but it is very expansive. So that to pay the big gastronomic eating each day you're going there, is a big account of money, so that we decided to take some sandwiches in the little café of the cloister (only opened during the festival). You can eat or drink a cup of coffee or tea also under free sky in the middle of the cloister (when it doesn't rain!!!). Last sunday it was very beautiful weather at first (it rained a little later), so that we could eat under free sky. In the background you can see the program of the festival and also some discs (there is also a disc shop only on festival days, with only baroc and ancient music and it is there the singers and musicians sell their discs). The plate bears an advertisement for the beer of Chimay (I do not drink alcohol at all, but it is information for other people, drinking alcohol is bad for the health). Chimay is a beautiful town with castle on the other side of the belgium border which has a contest of baroc singing at the same time than the festival of St Michel is held, so that you can go also to contest of baroc singing to Chimay during the festival. For cultural events there is a good co-operation with our friends of the next towns of Belgium, also in the Avesnois.

Abbey of St Michel en Thiérache (3) - a stair

Another picture of St Michel I made last sunday : A stair not far away from the cloister of St Michel en Thiérache. I found it was very good to show you a few picture of St Michel during this week, because it is a very famous abbey here in the proximity.

I explained in the post before (below) all about the festival of St Michel en Thiérache, going last Sunday to the concert I photographed this detail of the top of the pediment of the church (seen from the back), and I was trying to use the zoom of the camera. It is good to make details from the top of the buildings, what I couldn't do before with my other camera.

L'abbaye de St Michel en Thiérache... - The abbey of St Michel-en-Thiérache.

Last week-end, on July 08, 2007 I was in the festival of St Michel-en-Thiérache where I made several photos. Why do I publish a photo of St Michel en Thiérache here although it is not in the Avesnois?

1) Avesnois belongs to the Thiérache, the bigger region with Thiérache of the Aisne (the one where this picture was taken), the Avesnois (arrondissement of Avesnes in the department of North), and the Thiérache of Belgium in the East of the Avesnois and the North of the part of Aines were are St Michel and Hirson. In the Thiérache of the Aisne is the town Momignies, called "entité" because it is made of several villages from which the biggest is Momignies.

2) It is not far from the border of Avesnois, about 10 kms.

3) To this festival are coming people from alle the European Region, also from the North of France where is the Avesnois, many people of the Avesnois and of the regions of Valenciennes and Lille, and also many people of Belgium and Nederlands, we hear many people speaking dutch during the festival. And also the musicians are coming from all over the world. The festival is about ancient music, especially baroc music, because in the church of the Abbey there is a beautiful renoved baroc organ. With a very good ancient sound.

I bought my camera on the 7_7_7 (July 7th, 07), I think it is a lucky day !!! Now another picture I made by trying to use my new camera, I made some photos in the night of the 7_7_7 : Here is another, looking to the street I photographed one of my rose bushes with flash. I removed the right part of the picture which was all black. I get these seldom, but I think beautiful picture...

Ways and Memory....

The Natural Park of the Avesnois is a touristic aera, so that you find sometimes sign-boards like this one, about Ways and Memory, it is written "Fagne et Bocage". Bocage is a typical meadow and hedges landscape. Hedges are not only to avoid that the cows, horses and sheep escape, but is also a good protection against wind. The Fagne called Venn in Germany, is a typical high plain landscape, where some plants like heather can bloom. It is a landscape with high herbs and little bushes. And wood. We can find it in the East of the Avesnois at the borderline of Belgium and it goes then higher to the small mountains Ardennes, and at the other side of the Ardennes, the mountains in the South of Belgium, you find the High Venns or in french Hautes Fagnes, called in german also Hohes Venn.

First attempts with the new camera (1) : Rose of july

First attempt with my new camera Coolpix S200 of Nikon, this rose in the night... (with flash light), a little not very sharp, because I'm making my first steps with the camera but it's the first time I'm photographing with it and ... with a digital camera (all the phots before where made on my Canon Prima with films from which I scanned the photos afterwards). This rose is in my garden.

Church of Sémeries

Here you can look at the stepple of the church of Semeries, a village lying northly of the road from Sains-du-Nord to Avesnes-sur-Helpe. It would have been a good photo for the theme day about the colour red in cause of the walls of red bricks which are the main building material here with the blue stone of the Avesnois. Almost all churches here are catholic ones and also this one.

Roses in the summer garden

Here is a summer view on gardens of Pont-sur-Sambre, the view is taken in the Cité Notre-Dame and you can see alros the big trees which were planted in the sixties as the City was built. There are some rare species of trees there, rare for this country. Just in the first sight you can see a rose bush. Roses are especially beautiful in Juny and July.

Theme Day : the color red.

Just before my neighbours were settle away a month ago (we have new ones !) they put the child's garden toys near the house, and so we can see the red roof of the child's house. You can see the big tree in the back of the city is always staying alive although his branches were cut only on one side.
