A flower for Christmas and the New Year

In the Sambre-Avesnois, Christmas lighning begins at the 1st of December and are there until the beginning of January, often a little after the Feast of the Three Kings at the 6th January. So that Christmas lighting decorate towns and houses (since a few years private houses get also much Christmas lightning in the little front gardens). Here you can see the flowers decorating the main road in Sains-du-Nord.

New mountains appearing at the horizon...

Yesterday when driving to Fourmies, there were something strange; some new mountains were rising at the horizon in the East!!! And this during thirty kilometers. I think there were clouds which looked at the horizon like mountains, or a special optical effect due to the clear iced sky which made the Ardennes coming nearer to us, although we never saw until this day the Ardennes, from which we are the first slopes, from the Avesnois. Or the Vosges coming nearer though a reflection in the sky but there are three hundred kilometers far, so I think it is not possible. Although I saw already the Alpes from the plain of Alsacia (four hundred kilometers far from here) at a distance of two hundred kilometers. Or they were a great earthquake in Belgium (it is the direction of Belgium) which made the Ardennes becoming suddenly higher! But nobody heard of it at radio or TV!!! I do not know what it was. Probably clouds.

But all was looking to be nearer yesterday. For example the moon on the way to home was very big in its first quater and flat on the back of its crescent, so that I thought it was not the moon but an UFO (my husband said : "No, no, it is the moon!"), but I was so afraid of the aspect of the moon, that I didn't stop to make a photo. The big red crescent had also its back turned to the earth. We say it is a reversed moon.

However, on the outward drive, I made photos, and although it was a drive I made a few years ago without fear, I find so many things getting strange on this way, that I am often frightened. I stopped my car in Sains-du-Nord to make these photos of the "new mountains". Thus the blue mountain ridge, you see in the background don't exist usually. It was very strange because there where a place on the blue ridge where you can see some meadows and they were during thirty kilometers at the same place. The road is going at this place to the South-East.

Vosges (Riquewihr) to Berner Oberland (I saw already very well the Alps from Riquewihr at the East side of Vosges) : 180km (Berner Oberland unto 4000m high)

Some new mountains...

Her, probably the clouds, were making like new mountains at the horizon, and this during thirty kilometers. I asked myself if it were clouds or a "fata morgana" of other mountains like the Ardennes, reflecting on the iced sky. I stopped my car at a place where they were houses to make the photos.

272. My every-day road (3) : Waiting at a signalisation red light for works on the road

During about two months (November-December) there were a red signalisation light for cars on my every day road between Sains-du-Nord and Fourmies in cause of works on the road. I had to wait there between half an hour and three quarters hours. Sometimes I took other roads but with the complicated country land small roads web, it was not easier and did not go faster. Here as I took the photo, I was on the first place, but there are still one kilometer of cars waiting behind me. The waiting time at such a red light is always very long, because there is a security wait time after the last car of the other side is passed by. So that I had always to get 3/4 of an hour sooner out of the bed.

246. Every day road (2) : Through Sains du Nord.

Another part of my every day road is when I'm crossing the town of Sains-du-Nord. It from the sides of this roads that I have photographed for you already some beautiful landscapes. The track on the right is for parking the cars, so that It's easy to take photos at the sides of the road.

One more time the road is empty, because I'm always waiting that the road is empty to make a photo (if it is possible) so that you can see better the landscape. Here is the main road which makes the junction between the road coming to the East of France and from the Ardennes to the Avesnois, going from the department of Aisne near Fourmies to the town of Le Quesnoy. This road is crossing also the Avesnois from the East to the West. Like you can see the road is here very straight, so that the Gendarmerie is often at the edge of the road to look at the people who are driving faster than 50 km/hours. In towns the speed limit is on 50km/hours in France.

241. Sunset over the Avesnois.

Almost every day when driving home I got since september, these beautiful sunset skies to see. By good weather sunrises and sunsets are especially beautiful in autumn and winter. I took this photo in Sains-du-Nord.

240. Landscape in Sains-du-Nord.

Also on my every day road to the college, I have to look at such landscape. Here is the country land all green. You can see here some cows in the far. And the decorative "fields flowers" at the edge of the Main Road of Sains-du-Nord.

239. Last autumn flowers.

We had a warm autumn. Till this day the weather was only one time about 0°C. So that there are still may flowers which decorate gardens, towns and roads. People begin to put their geraniums in the inside of walls so that they do not freeze. But many roses are still in the gardens. They can last till Christmas. And only the months January and February are here without flowers. In some part of rural towns they make decorations with these mix of flowers which are sawd and are called field flowers. They last all the summer and till the end of october and later so lon it doesn't freeze. I took this photo in Sains-du-Nord at the side of the main road.

116. Somewhere in the Avesnois (3)

I took this photo in Sains-du-Nord. It is in a little town between Avesnes-sur-Helpe (the capital town of the Avesnois) and Fourmies. Sains-du-Nord is on the road between the two towns of Avesnes-sur-Helpe and Fourmies.
