UFOS on Pont-sur-Sambre

I do not know what you think about this but some lights coming in five or six series by little groups were flying after a thunderstorm over the roofs of Pont-sur-Sambre, all in silence; we do not know what they are. They were flying from the south-southwest to the east-north-east and made a curve above the roofs of the houses on the left of the foto and desapeared over the roofs behind the houses. It was about one o'clock at night, french summer time.

The street lights are big on the photo made from inside of a car and the UFOS are her only a few points (I think three points) in the sky in the background.

On the right it is a street lamp, and the big light is a car.

The UFOS are three little points in the sky. My photo is not very good in cause of the street lights and the car coming, but if you click two times an the photo you can become a zoom, and then you see them on the left and on the left above the roofs, flying paralell to them. But they were not white, but of an orange colour. My photo is not very good.

But on my video, one can see nothing!! I didn't made it a the right time!

If you see good on the vidéo, there is a little point in the middle of the sky, and they were no star, because the weather was very bad, I saw too two thunderstorm lightnings while the UFOS were flying, they came from the left to the right but were in the background of the sky and went to the left following the roof line on the left and then disappeared in the direction of the gardens behind the houses as they were at the half of the line of houses on the left. The voice you can hear on the vidéo can be the one of my husband coming just when I was filming but we do not understand what he's saying but he saw also the last group of UFOS coming very slowly, and crossing the sky. First he saw it were an ULM (little plane for one person), with three lights,but it was too far for an ULM. The lights were bigger than the one you see on the middle of the vidéo and orange; we can see also white coloures places, but they are the rain drops on the glass of the car.

Some people in the city Notre-Dame want to cut the trees down because they say the leaves of the trees are guilty for the overfloading of the garages of last 14th July. But people are not puting away the dead leaves of their gullies so that they are themselves guilty for the overfloading of their garages.

We love the trees and we do not want that they are cut down.

I do not know exactly what's the name of this bird in english (in french it is a héron), we saw at the edge of the Sambre two weeks ago, but it is very seldom to see such a bird here. Click on the picture to see it bigger and see good the bird.

It was last week a so big storm in the railway station, that we staid a while in the underground way of the station, because the rain was so strengthful, we could get wet of it.

What are they doing to the trees?

It is just now autumn and the trees you"ve already seen on my blog as they had a bad time with short cut branchs have grown a little in two years and have taken a beautiful round form. Not for long : as you see the car with the cutting knife is one more time her, and is cutting again the branchs and right now when the leaves are already beautiful autumn leaves for a little time.

They are no electric wires so that there is no reason to cut these trees. Thinking of the forest and the parks destroyed by the tornado, and the people in the neighbor towns weeping for their houses and trees, we cannot understand why they want always cut these trees right here were I live.

Why do they cut their trees? Some house-women who have no professional life and are not studying and are the whole day cleaning their houses are complaining that they have to sweep the leaves every day from their outdoor stairs and their pavements.

As I was young I lived in a big town and they were almost no trees and we were searching some corners with trees, some squares and parks to look at trees.

So I went to love very much the trees.

We had a neighbour woman who came from the country-side, she was cleaning the whole day her house and the leaves and did not like my mother with her sapins and who made a lot of photos of the blooming trees in front of her house. And who loved the birds and gave to eat to the cats of the town district.

Hope they shall not cut at all the trees at the back or the houses which have magnifiscent leaves.

I do no more hear the saws, perharps I already won... the blogosphere is something good.

A tree which lost the half of its branches two years ago. I made alone a demonstration in my garden with portraits of birds I drawed in my hedge and putting some bird houses in my hedge, and they abandoned their work... (I phoned also the regional natur park to which we belong).

This morning I had to search one photo with an URL for an exercice of computer work at the university (I'm old, but I go always to the university), I looked to my blog and unfortunaly I let it in the historic and now I am finding two difficulties coming this evening again on it :

1) I had difficulties to connect with my account.

2) Duckie has no more voice, do not make any more Couac when clicking on its nozzle and no more Clap Clap when eating.

Who can say how to give her voice to my duckie. I give her some strokes but it do not match. Why refuse now Duckie speaking with me?

I does not come from my computer, because my computer has sounds.

Here the first : This clouds although they are less and the sky is bluer is looking strange like mine, especially the little cloud between the middle and the right seems to be the same. And the inclination of the mountain left seems to be the same as the inclination of the roof of the houses; I know exactly where I made this photo. Tornado

I do not publish right now because there is a problem of space in my computer, and until I made place I cannot put the new photos in my computer; I cannot take the risk of a another computer crash if I have not enough place to let the system going well.

Four days ago there were a tornado in the village just after Pont-sur-Sambre along the Sambre, but it was said in the newspaper to-day the tornado took its birth in Pont-sur-Sambre, some people, living along the road to Bavay, about 300m away from our home, at the entrance of Pont at 200m high, said something with many colours with an explosion noise coming from the ground just before their eyes and going to the sky making a way in their garden, destroying a part of a corn field, and going away to the cemetery making injury to some graves and then flying above the country land came to the next village Boussières-sur-Sambre making there injury to some houses, came to Hautmont where it destroyed a whole town district and went in the direction of Maubeuge, the main town in the aera, where it let some roofs flying and some injuries to the houses and the zoological garden, where some birds and animals took their freedom and went take a walk or the flight in the streets of the town. The tornado went until another cemetery in the North of Maubeuge, where it take an end, about 10km away from the first cemetery.

There were 3 death and 17 wounded people. Among the dead people there is a man from the township of Haumont and his wife : their houses crashed above them.

Just before the tornado we came from the sea, and saw a light as we went with the trein to the railway-station, but there were no rain, the whole day it was much wind near the sea about 150 km away from home, and so we were not afraid of the wind as we came home.

A little time afterwards there were storm with a continue white-blue lightning, but without thunder, which is called magnetic storm, we didn't hear from here the noise like an explosion which the people who saw the birth of the tornado heard, but there were a big rain, much silent lightning, and much wind, but here and in the middle of the Pont-sur-Sambre town, there were no injuries to house and people. Only in the fields and houses on the hill at 200 meter of high above (here we are at 170m of high) in the direction of Bavay and Maubeuge.

There were many thunderstormes during these last weeks and this afternoon there was another thunderstorm only with a little rain but big lights and noise. But this summer we have thunderstroms almost every day, but the most of them are in the far.

It is very rare that we get a tornado here. The last one was in ¨Pommereuil at the south of Bois L'évêque and the Mormal forest 1967.

Also we are waiting the next one in 40 years!

The square Matisse in Aulnoye-Aymeries

You can see here another side of the square Matisse of Aulnoye-Aymeries. On this side you can see the eldest houses of the square. They were built I think in the fifties or sixties, perharps earlier, for the workers of the factory Vallourec of Aulnoye ( a mettalurgy factory). Nowadays the houses became some different colours or front decoration, but at the beginning they were all like the red ones. Here this sort of street (the most time several streets) where all the houses are the same is called a cité or a coron.

When clouds are becoming mountains

One evening in Aulnoye-Aymeries near the Super U (a supermarket), it is sunset and the clouds are becoming to mountains, the photos is taken to the North-West where there are no mountains until another continent.... so it cannot be a reflection of mountains on the sky to here (fata morgana), but only some clouds which are looking like mountains; but what do you think? The snow at the top of the mountains of clouds seems to be realy or not?

Here you can see come houses in the front of the railway-station of Aulnoye-Aymeries. The house on the right has burt a few years ago. It was an hotel-restaurant. One will make of it a bank on the floor and some apartments on the the 1st or second floor. But one will take away the beautiful old walls, and I am not sure it is a good thing, because these walls have a good old architecture from the time when the railway-station of Aulnoye was a very big railway-station with the crossing of the Paris-Moscou, and the Calais-Bâle (Basel) or London-Milan (Milano).

Tower in St Waast la Vallée

Nobody does not know of what time is this tower. I discovered it this afternoon, although it is about twelve kilometers from home. Near the village of St Waast La Vallée, on the road of Bettrechies. The tower is renoved by a group of young people and the roof is new and was made to protect the tower, which is a ruin and was probably higher in the past and was there to communicate with the tower of the castle of Rametz in the same village. There is a little river which is flowing at the feet of the tower. St Wasst la Vallée is in the Bavaisis near the town of Bavay from which I published already photos. If you click on the photo, you can see that there are some turtles on the roof.

French chocolate for Christmas. Pay attention : the pralines with the red papers have cherry alcohol. So do not eat too much if you have to ride a car. I do not drink alcohol, so that I am eating the others. I made the photo at Saturday 22th. We ate the chocolate with my pupils of the Saturday afternoon in the Europa House.

Floods of the Sambre in Pont-sur-Sambre

Just before the freezing time came, they were some floods of the river Sambre like here, behind the Cité Notre-Dame, in Pont-sur-Sambre. You can see how the meadows were getting some water. Behind on the left you can see also the blue bridge or Pont de Quartes, the one near the church. It was no great floods, this little floods arrived often in autumn and winter. In the nineties we had one time a flood during two weeks where all three bridges of Pont-sur-Sambre and the one between Aulnoye and Berlaimont was under water, so that we had to ride to Maubeuge to get a dry bridge. And make forty kilometers.

The vegetable and fruit shop has took its goods away from the street

It is now too cold and the vegetable and fruit shop in the shopping street in front of the railway station of Aulnoye has taken their vegetables and fruits away. A week ago there were still sold on the street. Since a few days in cause of the freeze you must go into the shop to buy some food.

What's 'this? An UFO? The wheel of the bus?

At the morning of the 9 December we had to take the bus to go to Germany to the Christmas Market. The place where we had to take the bus is 40 km far from home, so that I went there with my car. But it was right windy and it was fallen rivers of rain, so that we came to late for the bus. Three minutes to late... We had to take the bus at 6 am and we came at 6:03 am to the place where we had to take the bus and it was no more there!

In cause of the rain and wind, I decided to wait on the sunrise to go home and while waiting in my car I took this photo when looking to the high from the window of my car... What can it be??? (The photo is a little blur.) Do not fear, it is no UFO, it is a real thing. Answer in a next post.

During a long time the North country of France had a bad reputation, the reputation to have a bad grey paving stones on the roads, hard to ride one, especially with bicycles. Now, the paving stones of the North Country is very sought, for example for the great bicycle race "Paris-Roubaix". Or for the "Tour de France" or for the "Grand-Prix de Fourmies". or the "Quatre Jours de Dunkerque", all great bicycle races across the North of France. Now, this paving stones are used also to decorate some parts of squares or of pavements.

Here this paving stones are used to decorate the square Matisse in Aulnoye-Aymeries.

Waiting on the train and changing three times without leaving the railway-station

At the morning of the 7-12-07 I was waiting a long time on the trein. I must say, I had at the first time a good surprise, the trein before the trein I wanted to get was always there. 10 minutes too late. I said to myself : a good surprise, I can come 20 minutes earlier because mine is only in 30 minutes. So I was sitting in the trein and thinking to leave 20 minutes earlier. Oh! But it was more than 10 minutes and then came the controller and said : "All people has leaving the trein. This trein has a breakdown. So we had to go in the underground not to get a cold. Then they said : "Go in the other trein which is just on the same quay". So we sat again in a new trein, hoping it would leave soon the railway-station. And then, the controller said to all people : "You have to leave the trein and to take the next trein on the front quay, because this trein has also a breakdown", so we went to the other trein, the one I wanted to have at first. If I had know this before, I would have stay so long in the hall of the railway-station not to get a cold. Because we must leave the trein two times on the same quay before getting one which has no breakdown. And it was no strike. I took the photo as I was leaving the second time a trein on the same quay and you can see how the people are clothed against the cold.

There are many planets in the sky in these days and you can see right now the very bright lightning of Saturn and the light of Mars. Here is the front part of the railway station of Aulnoye-Aymeries (I wrote already in the past about this very big railway crossroad which is now a normal province railway station). Right in the middle of the sky you can see Saturn in the East. It is in the morning just before the sun is rising. On a right cold day.

A flower for Christmas and the New Year

In the Sambre-Avesnois, Christmas lighning begins at the 1st of December and are there until the beginning of January, often a little after the Feast of the Three Kings at the 6th January. So that Christmas lighting decorate towns and houses (since a few years private houses get also much Christmas lightning in the little front gardens). Here you can see the flowers decorating the main road in Sains-du-Nord.

The sky of December is of a light blue. Under our latitude (51° North), the sky is not always of a right blue in December. We have now the shorter days of the year. The days are becoming shorter at the evening until Santa Lucia at the 13th december, and shorter in the morning until the begining of January. It is clear from 9 am until 4 pm. Here it is 16:38 (my camera says 17:38 summer hour!) and the sun is coming down. The photo was taken on the Place Matisse in Aulnoye-Aymeries also.

Here I am reflecting in a shop-window of the place Matisse in Aulnoye-Aymeries. Or place de la Poste. So I named the photo "Reflection of a famous (hmm! hmm!) photographer in a window. You can see how the winter sky is pure (it is more blue than on the picture), and at my clothes how cold it is.

As I have already explained St Michel en Thiérache has a big abbey where are hold each year a great festival of ancient and baroc music and also during the whole year other cultural events. Here a view of the architecture and especially of the roof of the cloister. The abbey of St Michel en Thiérache is also in the Aisne, but not far from the Avesnois.

This photo is taken in the neighbourhood of Avesnois in Origny-en-Thiérache. I have alrea tdy explained that the Thiérache is the big region to which the Avesnois belongs. The big Thiérache includes part of North (Avesnois), part of Aisne (Thiérache) and a little part of Belgium (Belgian Thiérache). But it is historically the same region. There were many wars here in the past and people had to refugee themselves somewhere to escape the ennemy. There were not many castles here, so that people ought to refugee themselves in churches, so that the churches have often big walls like castle towers or not bigger walls. And the bell towers have always little towers at their side with holes to shot on the ennemy.

You can see on this photo, that the beautiful time of the middle of autumn is away. All the leaves or almost all the leaves are fallen and the trees are now very sad. This view is taken from the Cité Notre-Dame in Pont-sur-Sambre unto the river Sambre itself which you can see running alongf in the middle of the picture.

Each year there is a rock festival in August in Aulnoye-Aymeries. It is called "Les Nuits Secrètes" or the secret night. You can see here a remain of the secret nights of August. It is a poster with the direction of the garden, it means "Le jardin" a place where is one little open air stage. The big stage is on the Place Matisse near the post and is gratis.

At the end of autumn the leaves are now fallen, but roses are still there. When the thermometer goes under 0°C, they freeze all, also the rose buds. Perharps we shall have rose at Christmas. Last year there were still there in January. A long season, this rose bush is blooming more than the half of the year.

All this berries for the birds at the beginning of the winter. So long there is no frozen time, birds don't eat this berries. But when the thermometer is going under O°C, and the ground is frozen, then you see all the birds coming here and eating the berries. Especially the blackbird is fond of them.

New mountains appearing at the horizon...

Yesterday when driving to Fourmies, there were something strange; some new mountains were rising at the horizon in the East!!! And this during thirty kilometers. I think there were clouds which looked at the horizon like mountains, or a special optical effect due to the clear iced sky which made the Ardennes coming nearer to us, although we never saw until this day the Ardennes, from which we are the first slopes, from the Avesnois. Or the Vosges coming nearer though a reflection in the sky but there are three hundred kilometers far, so I think it is not possible. Although I saw already the Alpes from the plain of Alsacia (four hundred kilometers far from here) at a distance of two hundred kilometers. Or they were a great earthquake in Belgium (it is the direction of Belgium) which made the Ardennes becoming suddenly higher! But nobody heard of it at radio or TV!!! I do not know what it was. Probably clouds.

But all was looking to be nearer yesterday. For example the moon on the way to home was very big in its first quater and flat on the back of its crescent, so that I thought it was not the moon but an UFO (my husband said : "No, no, it is the moon!"), but I was so afraid of the aspect of the moon, that I didn't stop to make a photo. The big red crescent had also its back turned to the earth. We say it is a reversed moon.

However, on the outward drive, I made photos, and although it was a drive I made a few years ago without fear, I find so many things getting strange on this way, that I am often frightened. I stopped my car in Sains-du-Nord to make these photos of the "new mountains". Thus the blue mountain ridge, you see in the background don't exist usually. It was very strange because there where a place on the blue ridge where you can see some meadows and they were during thirty kilometers at the same place. The road is going at this place to the South-East.

Her, probably the clouds, were making like new mountains at the horizon, and this during thirty kilometers. I asked myself if it were clouds or a "fata morgana" of other mountains like the Ardennes, reflecting on the iced sky. I stopped my car at a place where they were houses to make the photos.

In Aulnoye there is a parking called the 120 places... This parking is always full at Tuesday, the day of market, first because we cannot park on the square where the market take place, second because there are more people on market days in this part of the town, as on other days of the week.

Here you cannot see the cars but only the yellow ans red colours of the trees behind the great hedge of the parking, I find it is a good horizontal composition.

As I went to Fourmies last week these two boys where sitting on the stair between the church St Pierre and the street with the "décor aquatique" shop (the shop from which I published a photo more than a year ago, is closed and becoming, I think, a new owner). I made the photo afterwards black and white and tried to make it in the style of Doisneau.

National dish of Anor : the escavèche.

This is a speciality of Anor. This fish is a river fish called escavèche, and we can find it in the waters of the little town Anor, in the South-East of the Avesnois. The fish is prepared with a sauce which much spices and is sold in glases. It is a cold meat. Naturally the "frites" (the potatoes) are a speciality of the whole North Country and of Belgium. You can eat it with salad and tomatoes.

Yesterday I was in Fourmies and I saw new lamps in old style in the two main shopping streets, rue St Louis and rue Cousin Corbier. This is a picture of the rue Cousin Corbier in Fourmies whith the new lamps. There is also a bakkery on the left for those who are hungry.

A twice time something blue... This bareer for pedestrians is in Anor in a place where almost no car goes so near to the pedestrian way, but one precaution is better than nothing. And in this corner of the town are almost all "street-pieces of furniture" blue. It is in the space François Mitterand.

There is no more feast of Halloween in France, because it is no french tradition. This feast did exist only during ten years, from the beginning of the nineties until two years ago.

The photo of Halloween I prepared ten days ago in Anor, where I photographed this vegetable.

Ifound it in an exibition of middle-age , where they did show how the people lived in the Middle-Age. And the vegetables they eat.

I think next time I must regulate my camera on the sport mode, because when photographing duckie I'm getting two duckies so quick she can spring. you can give her to eat if you want, but not too much, if you give more to eat than I do, she could lost her love of me. I wonder that the pixels of the screen are looking like a right fabric (fabric = toile, in french : la toile = the web) on the photo. And I must clean my screen, yeah!

Wild Rose berries

The cotoneasters (picture above) are very lovely plants which can make great carpets on the ground of gardens. They have little white-rosa flowers in the spring and some beautiful red berries in autumn and winter, so that they are a good decoration for winter gardens and are appreciated by birds ans are a good food for them in winter. It is not the same berries liks the one I published for a month with are the wild rose berries (also picture below). These ones are not a food for people (perhaps a poison, I don't know exactly, but I should not eat them, we learn as children we have not to eat wild red berries), but only for wild birds.

In our mild North country (I was surprised but looking at Google Earth I saw, we are more in the North than Winnipeg or Vancouver in America), with a half oceanic weather warmed by the Gulf Stream, we can have flowers until the end of December, sometimes also at the beginning of January like last year and the first spring flowers are coming at the end of February so that we have only a month without flowers.

I made this photo in my small wild garden.
